Self Care

Can we exhale?  We got through election day, and now we are waiting.  If you are like me you have been watching the returns with some trepidation and anxiety.    The question is now what? Some individuals have been especially nasty to others for their choice in this election, even though voting is a right afforded to all American citizens.

Sixty eight million of our neighbors, coworkers and family members voted for the current president and what he represents. These same individuals will claim they are appalled at what is going on in the country, but, now they will be viewed with some suspicion of their sincerity.

What I realize, many people are consumers of information and blindly listen, and repeat false information. They do not have the will or the ability to engage in critical thinking. They are our family, friends and coworkers, and we have known who they are for sometime, but continue to expect something different from them. They create their own facts or unwarranted fear, or simply are quiet about the treatment of others.

As a result, you have been disappointed, mortified, and upset. You choose to ignore them, or distance from them, but you must realize they are doing the best they can.

Give up the expectation and take care of yourself. You need to relax, reduce your anxiety and fear and watch your food and alcohol intake. Watch a movie or a sitcom to relax. Listen to music and dance like no one is watching. Self care is essential for your health and wellbeing. Stay aware, so you can stay well and safe.
